Hello Creative Turns One

January 30, 2015

This is a pretty special weekend for this little blog...I celebrate 1 year of blogging! Honestly, it doesn't feel like it has been a year, but I guess time does fly when you're having fun!

In honor of the start of the blog, I'm going to share some of my favorite blog posts from the last year!

1. Time to Fly is a favorite of mine, simply because it is when I decided to step out of my shell. I decided not to be shy or afraid to share with the world. It was a weight lifted!

2. I've been having a serious craving for this salsa lately. I've been trying to eat better (as we all do this time of year), and that means eating salads...with salsa as the dressing (so good). Too bad I ate this batch of salsa in about a month and don't have any now. :(

3. The blog went through a change half-way through the year. It was time to shake things up a bit, and I'm glad that I did!

4. I'm going to say this post is a favorite because I still use this foundation daily, and still love it just as much. Seriously - if you haven't tried it, do.

5. This post seems to be your favorite! Honestly, it's pretty good, so I see why. Yum!

THANK YOU for following my little corner of the internet. I have so much fun with this blog, and love that you all let me share it with you! Here's to another year!

Product Spotlight: Covergirl Bombshell Volume Mascara

January 28, 2015

The Covergirl Bombshell Volume Mascara has been out for a while, and I purchased it several months ago. I've been using it since, and to be completely honest my first impression was "wow", but after continuous use, I'm still undecided!

Or maybe my expectations just got higher?

The mascara is designed to be a two-step process. Step 1 is the volume formula, and step two intensifies and locks in the color and finish. The Step 1 brush is a shorter-bristle rubberized brush. Step 2 is a longer, softer bristle. When applying the product, I can tell a noticeable difference in Step 1 and 2. Honestly I think Step 2 adds more volume!

bare lashes / step 1 / step 1 / step 2

It adds pretty good length and volume, and lasts all day. Due to the design of the tube it seems difficult to get product on the brush. The tube is also really large, and kind of gets in the way when you're applying to the outer edges of the lashes. All around a strange design in my opinion.

Still a good mascara, but I keep going back to my favorite to compare. I like this product the more I use it, but I'm not sure if I like how it applies as well as others.

Have you ever used the Bombshell Volume Mascara? If so, what did you think?

On My Mind...

January 26, 2015

I've had the artistic bug for a few weeks now. I have been scouring Pinterest for ideas and inspiration almost non-stop. My usual medium is watercolor, but lately I have wanted to try out acrylic. Anyone have any experience with using acrylic???

Here are some of my top inspiration pieces...

This piece has so much color, but also has deep grey that balances it. I love the technique - the artist used soft strokes for the muted color sand bold strokes with the bright color.

I love the colors in this! I also like that it is at the seashore. :)

Abstract isn't for everyone, but I really like the abstract landscapes. The blues in this painting are beautiful, and it could be an ocean, a lake, mountains - whatever you want!

Another abstract landscape, but more autumn colors. This one is no longer available, but I like some of the others by this artist on Etsy.

One of these days I'll get the brushes out...in the meantime I'll keep eyeing up these talented artists!

Laundry Room Re-do

January 21, 2015

There's been a little project going on at the house lately...

We have a completely redone laundry room! I went out of my comfort zone of earthy colors and decided to have a little fun.

In progress...even after the floor and the walls were painted it started to look brighter and cleaner!

The deep blue cabinets are such a fun way to add color to the small room, and the rug has the perfect combination of rust, grey, tan, and blue. I had the large orange-framed mirror already, and moved it into the laundry room once I found the rug (because everyone needs a mirror in the laundry room, right?).

All of the cabinets were unfinished oak, and we painted them ourselves with a semi-gloss paint. We added the crown and trim to the cabinets, and I think it helps give it a more custom look. The shirt rod is a heavy-duty closet rod...the other for pants...is a grab bar. We had to get creative since there wasn't a place for it to die into on one end. It works just right, and amazingly matched the other one. Who woulda thought!?

The laundry room now looks like a room with a purpose instead of a catch-all for junk (it pretty much still is...it's just all hidden now!), and the design actually flows with the rest of the house - which was key for me because you can see right inside from the living room and kitchen.

I kind of want to paint everything in this blue color...

Winter at the House

January 19, 2015

It might be Winter, but the temperatures say otherwise. As I write this, it's in the 50's. I mean, that's nice and all, but I'd like to get at least one good snow in the season to stay home and sled...

I needed to remedy the winter blues.

After taking down everything Christmas, I like to transition to winter decorations. It helps me not feel so sad about the fact that absolutely no flowers are blooming, the trees have no leaves, and everything is just down right blah outside. Here are some pictures of the winter home transformation!

I usually keep some of the greenery in place and just add silver/gold accents, pinecones, etc. It makes everything feel like winter even if there's no snow. :)

Do you decorate for the winter season?

Friday Favorites in Five

January 9, 2015

Honestly, I am so thankful it's Friday. This week. Wow. Job well done week - you were full of tests!

Today I wanted to go back to some of my favorite moments from our camping trip last week. It was relaxing (minus a couple minor issues that occurred with our water situation in the camper, but all part of the adventure) and I can't lie...I want to go back.

1. Honestly it was one of my favorite New Year's so far. The campground had a holiday light show through the 1st, so the first night of our stay we were able to drive through the park and see the lights, go to the "winter wonderland" area and get hot chocolate, then walk around to see more lights. It was really neat! Completed our New Year's Eve with fireworks at the park. This picture is of a sand sculpture. Pretty impressive!

2. I spent most of the time taking pictures of the water, but my husband did some fishing with my uncle. He caught a big redfish (which was exciting).

3. Our little Bailee went on the camping trip with us, and I was super nervous because she doesn't travel well, but it was great...she sat at my feet in the camper or sat in my lap and slept the whole road trip. I was stunned. She also didn't have major barking fits at the campground (success). This was Bailee on the dock...you can tell she wants to go into the water (no, she really doesn't, she's not much of a water dog). And yes, she's wearing a jacket. It was a little chilly.

4. The beach. Ahhh. My favorite. I could stare at this for hours - forever.

5. The sunsets...

After that, it's been back to reality, and back to our laundry room project. New tile, new cabinets, big stuff. I'll be sharing once it's done! I decided to go bold with the cabinets. They're blue. Yikes!

What did you do for New Year's? How was your week? Please share! Have a great weekend!

January 8, 2015

Do you ever get stuck in a rut and feel like you can't get out of it? Yeah, pretty much everyone does...I know.

I'm there.

This time of year it seems like work gets crazy because at year end people are trying to cram in a bunch of things, then at the first of the year they all want to do a million more things because it's all fresh and new. I get it. I'm the same way!

My mind has all these thoughts swirling around. This time of year is always a little bitter-sweet. I think it's that Christmas is over (wahhhh!!!), and this new year is here with all its promise and hope, and I always think "maybe this year I'll do [insert idea/project/travel destination/etc.]".

To top it off, this year I turn 30. I want to say "No! Wait! Hold on a minute! I haven't accomplished everything I wanted to in my 20's!!!" <------ Who's fault is that? Mine. I know. Is that normal or am I just really crazy? I'm not sure. And I know I know, age is just a number...blah blah blah. Yes, it is a number. An older number than it was before. :)

So, I'm in a rut. All I want to do is get in the car or hop on a plane, and go somewhere. Winter does that to me (after Christmas of course - duh).

Do you get in a rut? How do you get out of it? I bet you get on a plane and go somewhere fabulous don't you?

New Year, New Outlook, New Goals

January 6, 2015

Last year I made the decision to not make any resolutions. In the past I've never actually stuck with it or kept the goals I set (granted, they were all pretty typical: work out every day ha). I chose to change it up a little and rather than make multiple resolutions that were usually forgotten in a matter of a couple months, I found a verse that I wanted to live by. Something that related to whatever it was I was going through at the time or something I knew would keep me grounded and focused all year.

It actually stuck. Whenever I started to feel discouraged or felt like my personal goals weren't being met, I reached for the reminder of that verse.

Keeping that theme going, this year the verse I chose kind of carries on last year's (seen here).

In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.
- Proverbs 3:6

There are a lot of times in my life that I get carried away with the what-ifs and start to worry if I'm doing what I should be or if I'm in the right place at this point in my life. I've always been a worrier. Last year I tried to focus on trust. This year I'm focusing on the next part of that journey...as long as I trust, He will direct my paths. That's good - I'm not good at directions!

What is your resolution for 2015, or what is your goal? Whether you set goals or give yourself tasks to accomplish - share in the comments what your plans are for 2015!
